Solar charge controllers or regulators are recommended to avoid battery damage from overcharging or deep discharge. Some models also provide a digital display of the system input and output current and voltage.
A Blocking Diode is fitted to ensure the correct flow of current and should be fitted when either no regulator is used or more than one solar panel is connected in parallel. We recommend deep cycle lead acid batteries, sealed or non-sealed.
Cable thickness depends on the overall length used between the windcharger and regulator/battery. For distances up to 20m a cable thickness of 2.5mm is recommended. The regulator should always be positioned within a 1.5m cable run from the battery to minimise voltage losses and ensure accuracy of voltage regulation.
